Geotechnical Investigation — GB3 Earth Storage Dam, Sierra Rutile Mine Site
ISC conducted comprehensive geotechnical investigations for the proposed GB3 Earth Storage Dam at the Sierra Rutile mine site, including 14 boreholes, Packer permeability testing, Dilatometer testing, and full dam foundation characterisation.
Project Overview
The scope included drilling of 14 boreholes with Standard Penetration Testing at 1.0 m intervals, rock coring at bedrock contacts, Packer permeability testing for in-situ hydraulic conductivity and seepage characterisation, and Dilatometer testing for in-situ deformation parameters. Disturbed and undisturbed soil samples and groundwater samples were collected from all locations.
Laboratory characterisation covered moisture content, particle size distribution, Atterberg limits, compaction, and shear box testing. A comprehensive geotechnical report with foundation design recommendations was delivered.
