Bonthe Sherbro Island Wind Turbine Development

Innovative Solutions Consultancy (ISC), Sierra Leone Ltd was engaged as the lead environmental and social consultancy for the Bonthe Sherbro Island Wind Turbine Development Project — a pioneering investment in Sierra Leone's renewable energy transition. Spearheaded by Octopus Energy Generation in partnership with Sherbro Alliance Partners, the project directly supports the Government of Sierra Leone's national objective to achieve 85% renewable electricity generation by 2030. ISC provided comprehensive environmental and social safeguards coverage across the full project lifecycle, including environmental and social impact assessment, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, and adaptive management. The project establishes Sierra Leone's first wind farm — a hybrid system of five (5) wind turbines alongside solar PV and battery storage — designed to transform energy access for approximately 2,000 households and critical community services including schools, medical facilities, fisheries cold storage, and e-mobility infrastructure. ISC's role ensured full compliance with national regulations and international safeguard standards throughout planning and implementation.
